Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP)

and had my last drink of water at 12 midnight the night before. i urinated the first thing in the morning and also before i had the IVP done. the tech was really good, put the dye in the vein and waited a few minutes and then started the xrays.. he did a few, would wait a minute or 2 and would do some more, he did quite a few. after awhile he came to me and said that he was having trouble, the dye was not going to my kidneys. so i got up and and urinated again, and got back on the table and he took 2 more with me on my stomach and then he said he would just let the radiologist see with what they had. i had it done because about 2 weeks ago i woke up and had bright red blood when i thought i was urinating, there was alot of blood, and then had blood 4 times more in the span of about 30-minutes to an hour, i immediately started drinking water and got it clear. i did get antibiotics and now doing the IVP.. i was just wondering if i needed to be concerned about the dye not going to the kidneys..and if they will able to read it with the dye not in the kidneys...thank you in advance..

First of all, you should be asking your own doc or the radiologist who was involved about this.
If the dye truly did not show up in the kidneys after a time, there a just a few possibilities. Was intravenous contrast injected? Was it injected intravenously or in the soft tissues? If iodinated dye gets in the blood stream it should get to the kidneys within a few minutes.

it was put in my vein at the elbow area, and i did try to ask but they really wouldnt tell me. i hope i didnt upset you, i just didnt understand and i cant get any answers from the tech here, and i just wanted to know whether to be concerned and maybe ask to have another one done, or just let it ride... can you tell me any of the possibilities at all? i will appreciate anything you can tell me, i felt the warmth through my body when the dye went in, but like i said i dont want to upset you, i just wanted an opinion.. thank you..
