Stints = PainAbout 3 weeks ago I had a ct scan that showed 8 stones. 5 in one and 3 in the other. 3 are 1cm. On tuesday I went in for a out patient procedure where they went in through my bladder. They got all the ones out of the left but couldn't get to the ones in the right. They then put two stints in. The pain and discomfort I have felt is more than I can bare. I was taking 2 percaset, anti spasm pill, burning pill, and an antibiotic. The percaset was not working so now I am on hydromorphone and it is not helping much either. On top of all the pain I am constipated, it hurts when I pee, I have bloody boogers. I had no idea this would be so bad. I am going in for a xray today to make sure all is well with the stints and then this coming wednesday they are going in to the right one and doing all this again. Please show me some light at the end of this tunnel. I am way to busy to not be able to function because of the pain.
Re: Stints = PainDemand that your doctors give you something to releave the pain. If a drug doesn't help, tell them immediately and ask for something else. I had to check in to the hospital and be put on a morphine pump, which was a BIG relief, although very expensive. Had they NOT put me on morphine, I was ready for suicide. In the meantime, keep reminding yourself that one day the pain will be gone. I feel for you.
Re: Stints = PainYou can ask for the stent to be removed if it is hurting so much; I too was suicidal with the pain of one. (When they removed it they also surgically removed the large stone as lithotripsy had failed.) Are your stones in your kidney or your ureter?
Re: Stints = PainTwo weeks ago, I went to the ER with kidney stone pain for the 7 month in a row. The ER staff acts often like I am doing this for fun or something. This pain is the worst I have ever in my life felt. There was a huge stone in the ureter causing a backflow and spasms...anyway, they did surgery and put a stint in and I do not feel better. I have to pee every time I stand up and when I do it is as if I am having a miscarriage! This is really getting to me emotionally as well as psychically and my doctor just sort of laughs it off...He has had me on percocet and now dilaudid. I need advice. Nothing works, it hurts constantly, twice in the night I wanted to call 911. Suggesions? Please? Thanks for letting me know that I am not insane and that kidney stone pain is unbelieveable
Re: Stints = PainYou have the right to demand that a stent hurting this much be removed. I don't think doctors have any idea how much these things hurt ( mine was like a knife twisting inside me) & as you say they cause dreadful frequency. Phone your surgeon's secretary & make a huge, enormous fuss.
Re: Stints = PainMy pain is like being cut with glass. It is that sharp. Thanks for the support. I did complain at the office and they made an appointment to see me for tomorrow...maybe some relief when it is removed? If he removes it in the office? Can they do it that way when they have to do surgery to put it in?
Re: Stints = PainI believe that it can be removed in the doctor's office but don't have any experience of this.
You need to be adamant that it has to be removed as you can't stand the pain, & do insist on adequate pain relief just beforehand if the doctor's going to pull it out tomorrow. best wishes
Re: Stints = PainThank you...I really can't stand much more of this agony. My family is trying to understand, but they don't. I really believe it is something you must experience to understand. I'm so glad I found this site.
Re: Stints = PainI know what you're going through. There is a light at the end, but not until the stones have passed or are shockwave broken up. I HATE stents...They hurt ALL the time, the stones only hurt when fluid builds up...You have a lot of stones, so its going to take some time...If the stones are in the kidney, they shouldnt hurt. When they move down into the ureter is when they cause the pain, the stents are supposed to help them pass with less pain. That may be true, but the stents are a real bother the whole time they're in.
I've tried to work with stones, too and its really hard. I needed to take so much strong painkillers that working was out of the question. Its going to take some time. Sorry.
