Getting a stereotactic core biopsy

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Aug 08, 2001 10:01 am

My mom's got micro-calcifications and is scheduled for a stereotactic core biopsy and is worried about how awful this is. Anybody out there who has had this procedure and could share her experiences? To further complicate matters, she's got panic attack disorder and needs to take Xanax to even leave the house. My father is her "safe" person and she's being told that he will not be allowed in the room. Any suggestions???

I'm a radiologist and do a lot of stereotactic biopsies. I am always surprised at how well these biopsies are tolerated by patients. After doing hundreds, I cannot remember a single patient who was unable to deal with the test.
I find it a bit strange that your father would not be allowed in the room especially under these circumstances.

Thanks for the speedy response. I'll get in touch with her referring physician's office and see if they can offer some assistance in this regard.
