The routine mammogram consists of two views of each breast, the lateral view in which the x-ray beam goes through the breast from side to side and the craniocaudad view in which the x-ray beam goes through the breast from the top (cranio-head) to the bottom (caudad-tail). There are numerous other views that are used in specific situations.
