The ultrasound image is obtained by focusing sound waves into the body which bounce off different tissues differently, then collecting the reflections, processing all that information through a computer and then finally creating an image that is usually photographed. Thus, all these findings are subtle.
Echogenic renal cortices usually indicate medical renal disease especially when the kidneys are small and contracted.
