I have resistant severe hypertension Is a doppler US of kidneys sufficient to rule out renal stenosis? If not what else is required? Thank you.

In some hands, doppler US of the kidneys can be a good test. It also depends on the patient's body habitus and other issues such as overlying bowel gas.
The best test though is MRA (magnetic resonance angiography). CTA or CT angiography is also very good in the right hands.

I had doppler US of the kidneys and aorta performed at an outpatient site of a university medical center. It was normal. Given this, do you think that an MRA would be warranted? Does it require a contrast IV? Thank you.
