With blood in my urine, my doctor
sent me for an ultrasound - the probe being quite large and unex-
pected. I saw the blood vessels and
pictures on the monitor. The techni-
cian said my ovaries would not be
visible. Then what would the sono-
gram show besides just vaginal
tissue. The urologist was surprised
the other doctor ordered this test - and I guess I had a bladder infection.
I'm still upset at the cost of the other
test. Was it really indicated?

Re: transvaginal ultrasoundPelvic ultrasound is not usually ordered for blood in the urine. Perhaps there was another reason.
The tissue you saw beside the vagina probably was the uterus. We do often see the ovaries especially when using a transvaginal probe. Re: Re: transvaginal ultrasoundThank you...you see, I was terribly embarrassed when I saw the waves going up on the monitor, and the young technician didn't seem to know what they were. She left the room and came back to "quit" the test. I had no idea the transducer would be like it was (the webMD's site says it's small - no way!) - no one explained the test...why couldn't they have used a numbing cream?
I could have "relaxed" myself at home before the exam. Because of my medical history, I feel my new OB/ Gyn "duped" me into this test either to get pictures for a class, or is this some kind of treatment for congestion (like muscleaches) that he did without my permission? His staff stares at me now, and my fam. doctor looks "wide-eyed". Will this follow on my med. record when I move? I'm 67!! [quote] Pelvic ultrasound is not usually ordered for blood in the urine.
