Please explain the diffrenceHello, I am 31 years old who for the last few months have had a dull ack in mid breast bone area. I have had a endoscope done last feb-march for some other complaint(left upper abdominal pain) and all was well except for mild erosion some gerd and gastritis, this was treated with prevacid and end of story. July of this year I had a air contrast ugi done(barrium swallow) all was normal. I was put on prevacid again and the discomfort is still there. I guess my question is could this be cancerous? I am having a scope done but not for 3 more weeks. My question is would the barrium have ruled out something serious since it came back normal. Please tell me the diffrence between the two and could the barrium swallow miss cancer? I was also told that i will be sedated instead of knocked out. I was knocked out when i had this done before I am a little scared of just being sedated. will I gag and choke while doing this and does it hurt when your not knocked out?
Re: Please explain the diffrenceYou're 31 years old and I would guess that cancer is a pretty unlikely diagnosis. Probably inflammatory. But upper endoscopy would be definitive.
As for the upper endoscopy, I really cannot speak to that other than saying that the I've had the lower variety and the conscious sedation or whatever they called it worked real well for me twice. It was the prep that was the problem. [quote] Hello, I am 31 years old who for the last few months have had a dull ack in mid breast bone area.
